The Millionaire Poker Player: Phil Gordon

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:28 am

If you are researching poker tactics, you will inevitably come across the idea of bankroll management. Almost every article on this subject concludes with the idea that bankroll management is necessary because poker players are millionaires. That is, unless you happen to be Phil Ivey. Phil Ivey sold a successful start up company in 1997, leaving him free to play poker around the world as a millionaire.

Phil Ivey has won a series of poker tournaments, including the Full Tilt Poker Championship at Red Rock, and the UltimateBet Aruba tournament. He has also played well in the World Series of Poker, although he has not earned any bracelets to date. His expertise is used on Bravo’s Celebrity Poker Showdown, where he provides commentary. To augment his successful poker career, he has published a series of books about how to be successful in poker.

While he draws attention for his skill at the table, he also is widely acknowledged for his charity work. He carries out extensive fundraising for cancer research societies, and often donates some of his winnings. It is not uncommon for him to donate private lesions or autographed memorabilia id the proceeds will be going towards charity. His story is an example of what a poker player can truly accomplish if they actually are a millionaire, but should not serve as a guide for the average player.
