Cruising Basics: the Cost of a Cruise Vacation
Cruise prices usually range from $500-$1,000 per head. Some prefer cruising for their vacation over the typical land-based one because it would come out much cheaper considering that cruise prices already include room accommodation, food, and beverages like coffee, tea, and juice. Other onboard activities and amenities are generally charged separately such as alcoholic beverages, beauty salon and spa services, Internet access, golf lessons, art auctions, fitness trainers, and shopping.
Other fees excluded in cruise prices that you have to consider in your budget are:
Government fees and taxes – government fees and taxes vary depending on destinations.
Transfer fees (for example, transportation from the airport to the pier and vice versa);
Shore excursions – these may be booked online through the cruise line. However, you may also save money by booking your excursions on the port where you will find several vendors, as they may charge less than the cruise line.
Travel insurance – there are several insurance coverage policies that you may choose from including those covering evacuation, emergency medical expenses, lost deposits, cancellation fees, baggage, and personal liabilities.
Tipping – you may opt to include tipping in the on-board account or you may also hand your tips personally to the crew members who served you. There are also some that already levy a service charge for the attendant who cleans your room or for the restaurant staff.
