FiOS Specials… We’re so Glad We Made the Switch

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:13 am

Because I currently has Verizon FIOS internet service, connecting my TV was a simple installation. He was able to utilize the Coax splitter I already had in place, splitting the wire leading to the router. The coax enters from outside the house, splits and runs into all the rooms, with one downstream cable attaching to the Verizon Internet Router’s Coax connector. From that location the router speaks TCP/IP over RJ-45 and supplies your home, however it also can display IP addresses over Coax to the DVR. A DVR is known as a Digital Video Recorder. It allows you to record programs to a hard disk for viewing later. That is also included with the FIOS package.

The interface is very easy to use and very intuitive. There are also plenty of advanced features and shortcuts you’ll find as you become more familiar with the software. For instance, while viewing TV, choose one of the direction indicators on the controls to take you For use as a shortcut to a variety of functions, instantaneously. For instances, hitting up navigates to a split-screen TV Guide with the TV on the left, while down navigates to a half-screen floating guide. If you press “Guide” a single time, it delivers the full-screen menu, while hitting it two times takes you to a split-screen. Pressing the button marked “Info” once will give you a small pop up with information about the TV show you’re watching and hitting it again will give you full-screen information.

The DVR can store approximately 17 hours of HD TV or 60 hours of standard TV. (short for Standard Definition) or any possible mixture of the two of them that you can dream up. Like with the majority of DVR devices, it is possible to adjust every recording as “protected”. (not removed automatically) or have to line up endlessly waiting with the final x recordings. It’s possible to choose just the latest programs, or every show, with reruns included.

As for the cost, the Core Package is only $43 per month right now, and you get different DVR options to choose from including standard, High Def, standard DVR and High Def DVR. For the hours we happen to spend before TV, the amount of over $60 for Cable is short of squander. Premium content providers set the cost they charge the service providers. Therefore, Verizon has to charge the same fee for them as the cable companies do.

Overall, I can report that we’ve been thoroughly pleased! The STB functions properly, the screen image is wonderful, and I’m very confident that new software and On-Demand movies will be made available from Verizon. Verizon FIOS TV has been available in my area for only a month, but I feel they are providing a great service. It is recommended over local cable if you can get it.
