Heartbroken in St. Martin
My girlfriend and I had decided to go on a cruise to the Caribbean for our first anniversary. It had been exactly a year since we met at the coffee shop just round the corner. I had walked up to her and asked her out, just like that. The rest is history of course. Things had gone really well over the past year and I was considering popping the question on the cruise ship. I picked the biggest diamond ring I could afford and decided to ask her to marry me in a romantic setting at the cruise port in St Martin.
As the ship docked at the cruise port of St Martin, I started rehearsing my lines. I didn’t want to screw anything up. As we walked down the gangway leading to the cruise port, both of us decided to explore the area together. All the while I was looking for the place and time to make my move. Suddenly, I realized that I had forgotten the ring on the ship itself. I told her that I had to head back to get the camera and asked her to meet me at that same spot in 15 minutes.
I ran as fast as I could and managed to find the ring in the place where I had left it. When I raced back I found that she wasn’t there. I looked at my watch and realized that it had been approximately 15 minutes. So I waited thinking that she must be looking at the boats at the cruise port.
It had been an hour and she hadn’t come back. Finally I decided to back to the ship and wait in our room. After nearly 2 hours she returned. She looked extremely upset. All my anger had transformed into concern.
That is when she told me that she had met her ex-boyfriend (who I didn’t know existed) coincidentally at the cruise port and had decided to get back with him. She was apparently still in love with him.
I was heartbroken. That evening I left St. Martin on the cruise ship by myself.
