Safe and Fun Online Shopping Tips

Filed under: The Commerce Trail — admin @ 7:13 pm

Buying goods online is more and more popular these days. There is an endless selection of products on offer which can be acquired without even stepping out of the house. It is a dream come true for those who hate the thought of traipsing round the shops with all the other crowds of people. As each week passes more of the worlds population gains the ability to access the web and to be able to utilise online payment solutions to buy goods. As well as actually being able to buy physical items like travel bags or vintage messenger bags for example, consumers are using the web to pay outstanding bills, bank and buy tickets for a holiday or an event.

One of the issues which can affect people who shop regularly online is delivery. This can cause headaches as items can go missing or take forever to arrive. Certain merchants can also be very strict about their shipping rules and will only ship to certain countries and only to the purchasing cardholders address. If when you shop online you are away from home you can get your transaction cancelled as the merchant may wrongly suspect a fraudulent transaction is taking place. Your location will be noted by the seller and if it does not match your home address they may cancel the transaction as they believe it is being done with a stolen or copied card.

You should be aware that you may be liable to pay import and customs taxes when you buy products on the web. A shopper residing in the Europe will not be charged import taxes for making any transactions from within that region. If the shopper were to buy their goods from America though they could well face an import charge if the value is high enough. You could find yourself in a state of surprise when you are asked to pay money to the delivery person to obtain your goods.

With the increase in online shopping there is much more opportunity for people who sell fake goods to con shoppers. Recently in the UK over 1200 web sites which were dealing in counterfeit branded goods were shut down. Unfortunately some unlucky consumers had already been conned by these goods before the closures. Buying from sites which are not well established online names can be a big risk. When you shop at sites such as Ebay which deal in auctions then you should take extra care as they can be full of fake and knock-off designer branded items.
